Summary

We are excited to invite you to the 12th online meeting of the RItrainPlus Community of Practice. The webinar is aimed at managers, operators and other professionals in Research Infrastructures and Core Facilities. Human motivation in research environments, 12th online meeting of the RItrainPlus Community of Practice.

Description

Human motivation is a key factor for successful professional development.
The theory of self-determination, promoted by professors Edward Deci and Richard Ryan, and based on positive psychology, states that human beings share a core of psychological needs that are reflected in different personal and professional contexts.
In this session, we will discuss the relevance of intrinsic or autonomous motivation compared to extrinsic or controlled motivation, as well as the fundamental elements that concern:

  1. the sense of volition and having the experience of choice (autonomy);
  2. the ability to master the specific environment (competence);
  3. and feeling related to others (relatedness).

We will also address the process that allows us to move towards an internalization of motivation and what strategies we can use to place it at the centre of our professional experience. Finally, we will analyse several examples that allow us to contextualize intrinsic motivation and its three components in professional spaces linked to research management.
